Best wood for windows?
Hi
I need to get a replacement wood casement window made here in WA for the laundry -
Which is considered the best wood for an external window - to stand up to the WA sun and weather ?
It will be on the east side with no eaves so full sun and some rain (if it ever happens again!). As it's to be painted, I usually avoid using a niece piece of Jarrah.
Plus, any suggestions of who can make it ?
Bye for now

Traditionally speaking windows over 'ere were made of Oregon. The reasoning was that because it is a softwood it accepts paint really well and light to move/operate.
Who can make it? Any good old time genuine Joinery Shop.
Just a hint on painting initially....DON"T USE acylic paint!!!!! Use some turps based undercoat with an added slurp of linseed oil for greater penitration and longevity of paint job. Top coat with turps based enamel and be sure to give it at least 2 coats, 3 would be better
Yeh I know I'm old fashioned but I know it will work and work for years!Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Cedar comes to mind. Nice timber to work with.
Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

If you were here in the states... Cedar or Redwood or Cypress to face the weather...
What? Aussie doesn't have a special wood that cares not what nature plays upon it? Teak? Aussie Oak?
Fir (do you refer to it as Douglas?) is a good stable, straight grain wood but it faces weather no better than others.
