I get annoyed.
One thing that really bugs me is when someone sees my work and then says, "Well it's easy for you. You have all the equipment and a good workshop area."
I excavated the under house area with a pickaxe and the wife and I mixed and laid the concrete floor and built retaining walls without help.
I don't smoke so I have perhaps a little more free money for tools, but that said, I try to point out that tools are not the full answer. I tried to use the analogy of a man buying a violin. Does owning the violin make it possible to join an orchestra?
Like to know comments others have recieived and how they have dealt with them.

Don't be annoyed "get Lucky"
I reckon the situation you describe is similar to the golfer who said
"Yes I was lucky and you know, the more I practice the luckier I get."
Now all I need is to get some compliments on my work so that I can explain how lucky I was.Last edited by Fred Nerk; 29th March 2008 at 08:34 AM. Reason: spelling errors
Experience is that knowlege that enables you to recognise a mistake when you make it again. :B

Never had that comment, most are too spell bound by the craftsmanship and leave in a daze

Jerry.
I think that is a backhanded compliment. Not many people comment about my work, but you might have shown me the way.
More tools for the workshop. Some people get a bit uppity when the see a person they know starting to achieve something. They do not like to see a deviation from the status quo.
Sometimes, we outgrow the company we keep and have to move on for our sanity. The ones that stick are the real friends the rest are hand brakes as they try to wring the enthusiasm out of you.

Hi Jerry, I get the "I don't know how you find the time!!" with the raised eyebrows and the sideways look as if to say why aren't you in the house cooking cleaning etc all the time
Not exactly the same, but just as annoying after hearing it for the millionth time.
cheers

Wendy,
Wife watches this forum and seeing your comments said, "Know exactly what she means. And that's just what I get from you dear."
Can't think what she means by that.
I''l find time very soon to post some of her work.

""Well it's easy for you. You have all the equipment and a good workshop area."
Yeah I get that from people... then they go on to say how rich I must be... derrrrrr I paid for my workshop by doing overtime at work and by the commissions I make.
I constantly get "can you make for me" and then your expected to make them something cheaper than the price of the materials!
Gives me the ?????'s it does.......................................................................

HEAR HEAR
Or the "YOU WORK WITH MACHINERY??? BUT THAT IS A MAN THING!!!" Implicating I ought to sit in a rocking chair crocheting lap rugs.
or
you walk into a hardware/machinery shop, make an inquiry and they automatically address the male in your company even though he has not the faintest idea what they are talking about

Where is the smilie for ROFL? My usual broad grin is not enough for this one!
By the way, that's an actual photo of Underfoot, around 2m tall and 120kg...
Don't let the turkeys keep you down, Jerry, human nature is what it is.
Do you know the difference between a neurotic and a psychotic? The psychotic says 2 and 2 make 5. The neurotic says: 2 and 2 make 4. But it annoys me!
