    Default Hidden fastener

I have been asked to make a repair in a clients home.
Apologies if the terms I use are not correct.

The job is to attach a "fender" to a fireplace surround. All materials are wood.
It appears the fender was previously attached by a nail, one on each side. I was thinking of reattaching by fitting some sort of keyhole bracket to both sides of the fender and a screw to each side of the surround.
Where can I obtain this "keyhole" bracket?
    Any other suggestions?

    Thank you in advance.

Brass (or more likely brass-ish) picture hanging plates should be available in the hook and hanging section of your local hardware store. Otherwise you can rout a keyhole directly into the timber using a keyhole router bit; it looks a bit like a "T" slot cutter.

Thank you Chief Tiff for your quick reply.
I had thought about using the router (I have the bit but never used it), but not knowing the density of the timber and only having one shot to get it right I want to have a few options. I may still use the router to fit what ever part I get.

I think I have found what I require.

Now all I need to do is try and find it in the store.

This is what I was thinking of but those narrow ones may be more suitable if your attachment area is small.
