Making a wooden flagpole
I have just moved to our retirement chalet and will be putting in a wooden flagpole. I have a 17' piece of maple, straight as an arrow 4" at base and 1.5" at cap. I have debarked it and this is where I need some advice. How long should I allow it to dry? What is the best protective coating to apply, if any to help preserve it and protect it from rotting and cracking?
