Wooden Magnetic Knife Rack
I had a piece of European Oak that I brought back from England about 7 years ago that needed to be used before someone else used it, so I made this wooden Magnetic knife rack.
The timber was sliced and one pieced drilled to accommodate 9 rare earth magnets.
The other slice was glued back to cover the magnets and make it look like a solid bock of timber.

Rare magnetic European Oak.
Looks great. I can not even see how it is attached to the wall.

Pffft, with Ceramic Magnets you silly.
Good job farty. I've had a similar thing rolling around in my head for a while (ever since I saw them on Benchcrafted). I was considering drilling holes into the back with a Forstner and glueing the REMS into place. In my current kitchen they really would stick to the wall as it's pressed metal.

I was going to use a forstner bit for the holes but wanted to get a flat hole with only about 2 mm of timber so that the magnets were most effective. The spur on the bit meant that there would be about 4mm so I ground a spade bit down flat (no spur) and it worked perfectly.
The board has a couple of spacer blocks glued behind it to give a space between it and he tiles and is screwed to the wall on the grout line. The second photo has the knives covering the plugged screw holes.
Handyjack...did you read my my facebook entry about magnetic oak?
