Woodman PT 310
I think I may have died and gone to woodworking heaven.
Used the new Woodman jointer/thicknesser for the first time today. So far, I am a very happy chappie.
It has a fair dinkum helical head, with slightly radiused cutter edges. It is as quiet as a fairy farting in church. The first cuts were with a tough old lump of Vic ash, which I deliberately planed against rising grain, but the finish was wonderful. It cuts 310 mm wide.
It should be borne in mind that the only thing I have to compare it with is my (now sold) Elektra Beckum machine, which was no slouch. Nonetheless I am as happy as a pig wallowing in mud. Will post again after using it for a few days.
My only bitch is dust extraction. It uses a 4" flexy, which restricts air flow, but there is no point upgrading to 6" because I can't get more air into the machine.

The thicknesser table has a digital readout (not electronic, but mechanical, like an odometer) showing how thick the finished board will be. Wonderful! That means that if I thickness boards to (say) 32 mm, and get on with the job, that I can come back the next day and plane up more material at identical thickness by setting the table using this readout. Very handy feature.

Pics follow.
First is the machine in jointer mode. Note how the fence travels all the way across the table, allowing you to share the wear and tear on all the cutters.

Second shot shows the table adjustment handle for the thicknesser. Note the digital readout showing 160.0 mm.

Final shot shows table lifted to go into thicknesser mode. Dust collection tray remains in jointer position so the cutters can be seen. Converting between jointer and thicknesser takes a few seconds.

John, this looks like a clone of my Jet JPT310. Great machine, hope you enjoy using it.

Enjoy the helical head, it's possibly the greatest advance since carbide. When it gets time to rotate the cutters, just do every other row; you'll get almost the same finish and double the life of a set.
