    Default The Woodsmith Toolchest Completed

Have y`all seen the toolchest plan featured in the current Australian Woodsmith magazine, issue # 79

It`s a clone of a Union Toolchest Works Co. box, a mission style seven drawer. The orginial company was founded in 1893 on Railroad st. in Rochester NY. The box was coined as a suitcase tool chest. This same company also built ammunition boxes for the American goverment for WWI.

The plan first appeared is the US Woodsmith in the June July of 2009, issue 183, and is the english version, (inch)

I`v attached some pic`s below of the completed chest shown with all the nickel trimmings.and of coarse that leather padded handle on top.

    Enjoy! John

Intresting observation, I can picture it with canary yellow, lavender or some soft pastel colored felt. Ringpulls were popular with sewing machine cabinets.

A mirror in the lid was traditional, but not shown. I`ll bet she`d love that!

I have loved them since first seen one from the UK an old engineer I knew then as a avid reader of Popular Mechanics during the 60's somewhere in one there is a plan also.

    Nice real nice job.

Pat with all that new equipment and wood you have October long weekend this year you should have it completed.

What a beauty. Wwell done. Just as well a sewing machine will not fit in it else it might have got a different home.
