Probably because it wasn't funny. I really couldn't stand it back then and when I see clips now it makes me cringe how bad it was.
I recall many years back spending weeks on a small island off the WA coast - (research work for the lobster industry) and there was no TV at night, just endless re runs videos of the old Paul Hogan show.
There were times I contemplated making a swim for it, for the sake of my sanity!
