Workbenches and the Festool MFT3
Hello all,
I thought i'd post this question here as the Festool forum may be a little too biased?!
I am looking to buy (or make) a workbench and am toying with the idea of buying the Festool MFT3. It's hideously expensive (about $1100 atm) - but is it worth it?
My current workbench is a drafting table and has a 1.5 x 2m x 20mm MDF top.
It's nice and big for assembly but the clamping can be a pain sometimes, repeated cuts (esp angles) are slow as I have to get the protractor out, reset the guiderail for each cut etc, and it's too big to move around the place.
I work mainly with power tools on this bench as i have another metal one for heavy whacking/hand planing etc
The reason i'm looking at the Festool is mainly for clamping/assembly capability.
A very close second reason is because of the mitre and guide set-up as i already use the plunge/guide saw and the router.
And thirdly, the portability - as it'll be heaps easier to cut flooring etc in the room rather than having to take each piece out to the shed repeatedly. (maybe i'm being lazy!)
So, my options are to buy this widget or make s'thing similar.
I'm not too sure as whether the make my own option would be a whole lot cheaper though.
Adding in my head the bits and pieces (mitre gauge, fence, MDf for the top, Al, + my time etc) prob would be in the few hundreds range, but likely i'd still have a few $ left to get some nice clamps maybe.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially those of you who actually use the Festool MFT, or those that loathe it for whatever reason!
Thanks!
