Get yer thinkin caps on fellas an sheilas!
Cause I gots an emergency question for you to help me resolve!!
One of the daughters is getting hiccuped on Dec 1... will be a fantastic day! with family friends and all that stuff on the beach with a jolly grand reception on afters
Now our question for yous lot is easy
What can we make for a pressy for these two galahs?
We would like to incorporate something we both do into the final pressy
me with my wood and Jo with her quilting stuff
So my initial thoughts run sorta like this
Ive got a couple of really NICE redwood veneers quite large and an unusual shape (will take a snap shortly) so I was thinking of a wall hanging... redwood background with a picture (marquetry) of that bride and groom thing that Teejay sent me made with veneers of Lebanon Olive Aframosa and Black Walnut with a thin say 1/2in Oregon frame
The whole thing will be 2 1/2 foot along the longest edge down either side 8in then in a bit on an angle for another 8 or so inches and then a straight run across to meet the other side... strange shape I know... but thats the redwood shape and I kinda like its difference
Now thats me done easy eh
Now to include the missus's thing... quilting... so Im thinking another frame about 6in out from the main pic with the intervening distance a quilt over ply as a framework...
Hard to explain this... but its about the only way I can think of to incorporate what we both do as our art... Tiff is one of those girls who likes hand made with a touch of the personality of the person who gives... so she will always know it was Dad who made the inner picture and Mum who made the outer JUST for her on her special day.
BUT!!
Were open to other suggestions!! Time is moving on here and well the above will take some doing given the state of the shed and the planned move in a few weeks to another house in another area
Soo any other ideas would be great!!
Ps... I have 4 peices of the redwood veneer... I have been considering making her highness a set of side tables with it for the new house and thus why Im askin for other suggestions here!! She knows thats my plan and Im sorta tryin to avoid upsetting her by suggesting the wall hanging ideaBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Okay and the Aframosa and Black Walnut crotch
Im sorta tossing up if maybe some Birdseye maple wouldnt be better than the Aframosa... whiter you know? try and bring some distinction to the bride and groom
Anyway... thats the thoughts...
Alex? Im not knocking your idea its bloody good!! Very achievable given time and other constraints just wanted to whack these up to give an idea of the colors and tonings Im thinking of using
Cheers!
And do stop thinking!!
Whatever I end up doing Im RAPT to be able to have some great Ubeaut products to do the finishing with... thanks again to Anymouse and Neil... now back into it!! get the minds rattling!!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Nice one WD like he idea of the box. If you want to make them separate then why not a box with a curved top like the old steamer boxes and you can feature the nice veneers and add a quilt for the master bed. Both nice prezzies that will be enjoyed for years
Added extra why don't you turn some pens with engraving for the bridesmaids and groomsmen? Something they will treasure for years to come

or this
or this ... you could add veneers to this one
another simple one
and another
I;m sure you get the idea
they are going on ebay for between $70 and $130Ramps

Gidday Ramps... Appreciate the missus's thoughts mate that would be fine for her highness and Ive got my mind set on one with downlights along the top edge for her...
Id rather like something for both of them you know? something like that would be more in the lines of for Tiff to hang quilts from and seems not to have much at all for Ben... masculine? maybe... Im thinking either an artwork as I first thought of or something that even Ben as mucho as he is would be glad to look upon something he would feel comfortable with... if I do something along the lines of a quilt rack he would feel that it would be only for Tiff you know?
But great idea and one I intend to go with for her highness!! glad you reminded me actually as Ive gotta get that done BEFORE the new place is built!
Cheers!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Hi Shane,
At the Sydney Quilters show a few years ago there was a Japanese lady showing her work. She was incorporating all sorts of materials into the quilt, tufts, bits of metal etc. Now with a bit of backing the veneer could have some holes drilled around the edges be sewn into quilt fabric. Striking timbers such as the Redwood could be offset with shiny fabric. You could even include our sponsors products to finish the timber as you put it in the quilt. The timber wouldnt have to be flat,

Shane gues the quilting is machine done
if you had photo of said couple a quilt made from said photo and then a frame made by yourself to show it off 2 for the price of one.
