Chinchilla white gum
Hi there,
I guy I met once recommended Chinchilla white gum (E. argophloia) as a suitable tree for small scale timber growing round these parts, being drought and frost tolerant. Apparently the sapwood and heart wood are contrasting, and has a density around 840kg m-3 .
I found some info on-line (http://www2.dpi.qld.gov.au/hardwoodsqld/11172.html) but must be a newish entry for plantations, because books from the library don't include it. Has anyone had any experience with it, either growing or using as a timber? One of my concerns is how it will handle heavier rainfall if we return to pre 1990 patterns.
CheersAndy Mac
Change is inevitable, growth is optional.
