I did note that, and hopefully so will others. But there is always a danger that some might fail to note that or fail to heed that and, common sense is often one of those things that develops after the fact. While my reply was meant to be an unambiguous "don't do this", since we're not talking brain surgery, I suppose the rantishness was unnecessary.
In any case, please know it was not meant on a personal level. Its always good to have people offer their tips/tricks and ideas, etc. I just felt that this one was best nipped in the bud just in case.

No insult taken, and you were right to advise against my (ignorant in this case) recommendation. The sarcasm was a bit thick, but I did get a laugh out of the screwdriver bit. Luckily I didn't spew my drink out my nose )

Glenn your comments are noted.
I might add that there should have been a further step in your re-hardening process in your initial post: That of tempering. The blades must be cleaned after quenching and re-heated to the coulour of straw (doesn't take much) and then qenched again. This step removes the absolute brittleness. However, this would be on western style high carbon steel. I wouldn't, as others have already said, attempt this on laminated steel. Frankly, I don't know what would happen, but I don't think it would be good. The dissimilar metals may even de-laminate.
