Default My small haul from Japan

Took a few years to finally happen but we made it to Japan.

On the odd occasion I wasn't eating ridiculously delicious food, I visited a few tool stores.
My haul minus the genno head I forgot to photo, but have to make a handle for it so might show it then if I remember.

    Left to right:

65mm blade kanna from a tiny little shop down an alley way in Osaka. Blade seems fine too me, obviously well used and mouth maybe a little wide but easily fixed. Takes a nice shaving for the grand sum of 4000yen, about $45.
    ????????????????????????????????????????

36mm from Inoue Hamono in Tokyo. Great store. Very friendly and helpful. Cuts beautifully.

40mm from Tokyo hands. Wasn't sure what to expect from this for equivalent to $12. Blade is soft and fairly thin, but takes a nice shaving. After squaring up the chip breaker.

Chamfer plane and double marking knife from Inoue Hamono. The detail on the chamfer plane is outstanding, and I really look forward to using this.

And a couple of chisels from 倉重電動工具株式会社 also picked up a flush cut saw, genno, kitchen grater and another double marking knife from here. Could easily have spent so much more.

It would have been so easy to spend a lot more money at all these stores. They were all very friendly and helpful and even let me try some of their tools out. If I ever return I will be visiting these stores again.

    cheers

    Default Nice Tools

Very nice - love the thin shavings. Japanese tools are made so well, with a little tweeking (sometimes a lot) work like a charm. Enjoy using them>
