Default Anyone can identify these chisels?

    404058_3993885040315_1457460125_n.jpgChiyozuru1st.jpg

    Hello!Everybody

I gonna get these chisel from my brother's friend.

He told me it's 1st Chiyozuru that make me think of Sadahide 1st.

But as he said it's the work of Chiyozuru Korehide.

After that I try to search a lot about Korehide but have seen just some plane and a bit of chisels.

I asked some people I know.Someone told me that 1st chiyozuru mark on the box can be korehide or cannot.

cause in the past, someone have the trademark of Chiyozuru.

Then I try to search the Chiyozuru brand that Shogo Tanaka and Katsuji Sano work for.

Anyway I've never seen 1st Chiyozuru mark on the box of Chiyozuru brand.

Just some blacksmith's work that related to Shogo Tanaka and Katsuji Sano look quite close.

His name is Yamazaki Haruyoshi. He always work in the same way as Korehide work(a lot of Artistic and engraved on his work).

Anyway,If anyone have some information about these chisel, please share it.

I will be very impress to know.

So sorry If my English is not quite good.

    thank you everybody

    Hi Ply

Sorry, I can't help you. I am out of my depth on those nomi.

If you cannot get help here you may need to contact So Yamashita here but he is currently away and is slow to reply to emails, anyway. And if So-san doesn't know, his dad will. Just be patient.

They look like a gorgeous set of nomis, whoever the maker.

    Lucky you!

11.jpg part of the box that have Chiyozuru handwriting

22.jpg but when you flip this part up you will see the name of the maker(as Naoki San said) " Hidari Hisahiro" Between Kaou and the name has the letter that mean Buddha (I think it relate to Daruma engraved)

    ex1.jpgex2.jpg

This is the pics I try to compare with my chisel and Hidari-hisahiro 's work,It's look very close, right?

Especially the curve of Ura that joint to the neck. It's very smooth curve that different from today's work.

" Chiyozuru Brand " in the past (around meiji 30 period) may not link to Chiyozuru Korehide 's work.

As I can understand from google translate It is the work of Chiyoda castle(Edo castel) associate.

Look like I solve a lot of my curious right now.

    Thank you Neils and everybody

    Hello Neils and everybody,

This is latest email from Naoki San(the apprentice of master Sadahide II) about these chisel set.

    " Hello! Ply
    Sorry for late response.

I asked some people with your pics.

1, that neck curve style is “Kanto(east Japan around Tokyo) style”.Korehide,Hisahiro and Ishido lived there.
2, We couldn’t find the sign correct or not.
3, your chisels are looks like old

Totally your opinion is correct I think. It may Hidari Hisahiro’s work.

    Please treasure!!

    Thank you

    Yours truly
    Naoki "

Actually I don't try to find anything more right now,Last thing I do to get rid of my curious is try to compare it with 6 mm Ichihiro I have.

Paring it to mahogany end grain around 120 stroke and both of them still not perfectly dull.

then I was boing about paring it more(HaHa).As I'm a guitar maker I just think both of them is hold the edge too good for my work right now.

If those chisels were made by master tool smith Hidari Hisahiro, then you have some very special tools there. They have even had an exhibition of his tools at the Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum.

Perhaps Takanobu Ikegami, whose father was apprentice to Hidari Hisahiro, can advise you if they are his work.

Even if those chisels are not by Hidari Hisahiro, they sure look like excellent old chisels.

Hope you have some good natural toishi for them.

I'm sure you will be a good custodian.

    PS - nice looking guitars

    Hello,Neils

Thank you again for your help.I try to contact him but cannot understand each other(he don't understand English).
He just told me that Korehide copy(that mean he still don't know that in the past have Chiyozuru brand ,then I realized these chisels is too old to find the real history). But If it is a kind of copy it should have Korehide name in my opinion.
And if it Hidari Hisahiro copy,it don't make sense for me to lie the name in the position that you may never find under the Chiyozuru's brand.

I find some information about The most of Hidari hisahiro work sell via the whole seller brand.
Just a few of his work sell directly to the customer.

And Chiyozuru brand is the brand of Chiyotada castle(Edo castle). Many people think it fake Chiyozuru Korehide again.but actually it 's not. Some famous maker(Katsuji Sano and other) work for this brand.
And sell in premium price too.

Anyway,The thing that make sense for me it surely work of the one who have the name lie underneath in the box for Chiyozuru brand.but Hidari Hisahiro may not write it himself according to Hidari Hisasaku 's words. (as I can understand from translator).
P.s. I find these Hisahiro engraved on his plane look quite close to the hand that underneath in the box(but Hisasaku don't think it sign by Hisahiro himself)
