Japanese Kanna Plane
I have just purchased a new Kanna plane and I need help to set the iron. I have been trying for some time now but I just can't get the iron to protrude through the mouth. I'm terrified I will split the sole. This plane cost me $500.00 so I don't want to destroy it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to pay someone to do this for me. Cheers.

useful information
This is entirely normal in a new kanna. With these tools it is assumed that the owner will fit the blade properly. Here is a good link for how to do it. Follow the instructions and go slowly and it will work. https://brianholcombewoodworker.com/...anna-dai-prep/ Another helpful idea is to use Bill Carter's blunt chisel scraper (just google that) it works surprisingly well. -Howard

In addition:
Take it super super slow.
Do not force anything.
It is good to practice on a cheaper smaller kanna.
If you do stuff up and do something wrong you can always buy a replacement dai for less that $100 the blade is were most of the value is.
