It's a 65mm Senjyu #1 blue steel plane and 42mm rabbet planes.
These are my first 'new' tools. I've only been using restored old tools until now so I'm pretty chuffed.
The festival was over a weekend. Unfortunately I missed the day when the kanna competitions took place.

Would love to have been there. I have never watched a kanna competition live. Would be a lot of fun. My brother-in-law is going to kick himself. He was in Osaka over the weekend.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get the Senjyu 65mm for? I've only seen it online at ToolsFromJapan, for Yen 26,800 However, I did see a 70mm Senjyu sell for US$125 on eBay recently which I would consider a real bargain.

Oh, sorry. I just saw the price tag on the Senjyu Yen24,000. Better than online and it is supposed to be a fantastic blade. You are very lucky.

I got it for 20,000. All the price tags are list prices and you can negotiate or ask for a discount.
That seemed to be accepted practice.
There were two large warehouses, one for carpenter tools and another for knives.
Outside it was fairly like a normal Japanese festival with food stalls and dance acts on stage.
The blue cone you hammer down to mushroom the wood around the chisel hoop.

Wow!
Thank you for a great set of photos. An amazing array of tools on display, makes our Working With Wood shows look a touch ordinary. I think my wallet would get very badly damaged if I ever went anywhere near that show!

Thanks for sharing all those photos! Some great tools you have there, any particular projects in mind for them?

q9: It's in Miki, Osaka Japan the first weekend of every November. It was my first time going but I'll deff become a regular!
fissionchips: I'm coming over from leathercraft hobby. I had in mind to make wooden bag moulds that I use to wetform leather around.
So I'm working on my first couple of projects. Just finished a Paul Seller's joiners mallet. Next projects are low saw horses, then normal size ones then a planing bench.
Here's some inspiration!

What a great set of Photos covering the Tool Fair. I can't read Japanese but the shots of the stall holders talking to the public was self demonstrating human body language. The sellers seemed very proud of their wares and had very sincere faces while answering customers questions.
I am envious of them though, being able to sit on the ground and do some tasks. It seems like no problem for older folks.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod
