I posted pix of these in the Garden Shed forum but for those who haven't seen them there:

The heads are Oregon white oak (Quercus garryana), one of the hardest oak species. It grows locally to me. I got some chunks a couple of years ago from a friend who mills the trees for excellent flooring. The handles are European beech leftover from building the workbench they are sitting on. The small one I turned and is about 2.5 kg and the large one about 6 kg. The handles are about 800 mm long. I faced the smaller one with leather to avoid dinging the softwood timber frame I'm building.

These were a weekend project and fun to put together. Whenever I pick one up I feel like a manly man! Grrrrrrr.
