That Mandaraya website looks quite interesting. They mention at this page: http://www2.odn.ne.jp/mandaraya/oshirase-1.htm that if you spend over $100, then you can choose to get a free instructional DVD (green highlights) or $200 will get you a free DVD (including red highlights).

The DVD titles range from how to use a Kanna vol 1 and 2 (red highlighted one has both vol 1 and 2), how to sharpen Kanna, how to set up a Gennou, Kezurou-kai, how blades are made and how to sharpen HSS.

Raptor true. The websites are also full of how to information on all tool related topics. Well worth a read.

A recent development is that Pro Shop Hokuto has opened an english language version of their website here http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~ttoishi/sumurai.index.html.

I am planing to place an order for a set of Kunikei through them in the new year.

I would love to see them expand this option to kanna.

I'm surprised that there are some tool shops out there selling decent tools in Japan willing to ship overseas and accept payment using PayPal.

I think perhaps it might be worth making a list of online shops to buy Japanese tools direct from Japan to help everyone with their tool acquisition. I'll do some searches and see if I can find some more that we are not aware of.

I found a few others but they did not respond or do not ship outside Japan. Also Japanese tool shops seem to stock only tools from certain regions there are a few that only stock Miki tools were others only stock from other regions.

nice find and with english support - their range is however very limited. They seem to have had a decent natural stone collection.

A problem I find with many on the list is that they list items that are sold i.e. no longer available and it makes searching their websites tedious you think you found what you want only to find that it was sold years ago.

Raptor can you read and write Japanese? I rely on Google translate.

People have had mixed satisfaction with this seller.

I am one of them. There have been negative comments on some other forums.

Having said that, there are discerning members of this forum who say they have been satisfaction with their transaction.

I have had no negative experience with any other sellers.

Tomonori is one of my favorite Japanese tool sellers, he's most easily available on ebay. I started buying from him in 2001 or earlier when I started getting into Japanese tools and don't recall being disappointed with service or product. But, I haven't bought much on ebay for the last couple of years, and these things can change.

Maybe a sticky could be made for future members. A list of Japanese and Western tool sellers who sell Japanese tools with a small blurb about what they sell in regards to brands and blacksmiths.
