Default Chiyozuru Korehide kiridashi knives for sale

Although this is an ad for sale, I assume no one minds my posting this one here. You can either laugh, or be fascinated by the below photos! This could be the first and the last time, photos of Korehide's tool that is for sale appear on this forum...

    ==============

Chiyozuru Korehide being considered as a god of blacksmith, in Japan selling and buying Chiyozuru Korehide tools is a taboo. Whenever they are sold in public, many of Korehide fans would ciritisize the sale, thus cannot be done freely in Japan. The mei has to be hidden at least.

Since these are sold out side of Japan, I can show the photos with mei showing. I am sorry but I can post only two photos for now, but I will send the detailed photos to anyone who is serious about purchasing.

They are in wooden boxes, made, signed and stamped by the master himself and are all in absolute mint condition. Anyone who wishes to see the photos to consider purchase, please contact me through email or private message and tell me your suggestion for the price. To give you a rough idea, each of them are about the price of a small automobile.

Probably everyone had already assumed this, but I forgot to mention, these knives are still in Japan, so they will be shipped directly from Japan.

    Soatoz,
Looks very nice! but I would never be able to afford one.
Why is it "taboo" to sell his tools? Surely He makes the tools to sell? and his fans have bought his tools Someone has sold them somewhere along the road
Somethings about Japanese I will never understand

Edit: Heres mine.Cost $5 from the diy shop

This knife for $5??? Why?? It looks quite nice one.

It's a long story about Korehide, but he didn't make tools to sell... If he did he wouldn't have spent 200 times more effort and sell for 100 times more price. That's not business. Please read the Blacksmith sticky.

Someone has sold them, but definitely not through computer net work to unknown buyers. So, this is I think the first time in the history Korehide's tool has been sold over the net. Maybe in the States? I don't know. But it is funny Japanese swords that cost much more than these knives are sold on the net... (contradicting hey? well life is all about contradiction!)

As for the taboo,,, if you have seen samurai movies or something, you might have heard that the sword is more important than the owner's life? Or if someone touches his sword (the handle or the sheath) bushi (samurai in more common Japanese) considers it as a challenge to death?

Japanese tend to attach soul to their belongings, especially if it's something very special, so if you sell such tools, literally you are selling your soul. So, these super dooper special artifacts should be given but not sold for money. (Do you get it??) But of couse this kind of idea has become a ritual, since people aren't like ancient samurais anymore.

I being Japanese I understand this kind of sense of value, so whenever my friend asks me to sell my creations, I either say No, or if they really seem to want it I give it to them.

    Funny insn't it?

And thanks so much for posting your knife. It loosens up this post a lot!!!

I gather we are not talking about Tonka Toys prices...

Since this is an unusual sale, related to Japanese tools and is more a curiosity than a sales pitch, we'll leave it here. Normally though, items for sale should be posted in Buy, Sell and Swap.

Thanks for the explanation Soatoz but I still dont understand it I can understand, that in times long ago, that was the Japanese way, but not today. As I see It today, it all seems to be about money and profit. Obviously there are still master blacksmiths with the old mindset, but for fans (who have bought his wares) to discourage the selling of them is a big contradiction
I understand the about the effort put into the work of these blacksmiths. Japanese call it soul or spirit.
Anyway...the $5 marking knife it works well, it marks lines, its sharp. There was a few to choose from. I took the cheaper otion as usual... oneday I might get some good gear
    cheers

Perhaps the Japanese blacksmiths need to look on Ebay more often , in order to get really interesting ideas for their knives. I think this one is called the Dragon Molester or some such thing.

I think the Japanese make some very practical knives. What the heck would anyone do with that thing? The only possible use I can see for that is, well, ... I dunno.

What would you use it for?

    Self-mutilation? Not necessarily deliberate, either...
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

I would use it as a vehicle, enabling me to join in the spirit of flippancy
    alive in this thread.
