    Default Yokoyama Kunio Plane and the Delamination line.Is that normal?

    Hello,Everybody

    My brother Bought me the Togo Kou Yokoyama Plane for a while.

    I just have a time to sharp it today and find that the plane have some thing look like the delamination line.

    As in picture below ( around the center of the plane that between Iron and steel ).

    Then I wanna know this is the normal or not?

    Cause I saw some from Japan-tool Picture.And Soatoz said " That's not effect the perform "

    I don't care about the look but Much more worry about the performance and Durability.

    If anyone have an experience with this issue please let me know how to take care about it.

    Plysters,

    It looks ok to me. This should only be cosmetic as I'm sure the lamination is good down at the cutting edge. What you are seeing is the end of the hard steel. It will probably take you 100 years to grind all the way back to there and all the hard steel will be used up by then anyway.

    I totally agree with your analysis about the cosmetic factor, proof that it was handmade. So Ply, think of it as a beauty mark.

    Hello Alx,

    Sure thing about that. Yokoyama's Togo-kou be the best all around plane as So-San always said.

    Just Togo-Reigo that I can feel a little bit sharper(drier) in my opinion.

    But the price of togo-reigo always not lovely as togo-kou,right?

    a little bit hard to sharp but It can handle the most hardest cocobolo in my shop without change to angel of the blade(28 degree) actaully it should be around 45 for very hard cocobolo like that.photo (1).JPG

    This is the picture show the result on Mahogany after I plane it with extremely hardwood for an hour.

    p4.JPGThis is togo reigo plane
    with the same test(After Hardest wood) .
    It look more shiny on the same piece of mahogany.

    If someone that want to get all around plane.

    I'm surely recommend Yokoyama's Togo-kou,too.
