Default Recommend a structural engineer for a house design in Melb

I am looking for a geo/structural engineer in Melbourne to work with in designing & documentation for a exciting new house construction in Rye, Victoria in late 2012/2013.

    The project details are:

Sloped site so may require cut.
Post and beam footing on Sandy soil foundation.
Structural members predominately of timber probably beyond the scope of AS 1684.
    Drainage plans and documentation required.
Site has a WMO (Wildfire Management Overlay) therefore will require a Bushfire Assessment.

I would love to hear any recommendations or positive experiences anyone has had with a structural engineer.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.

why have you decided on a post and beam footing this early in the design/documentation process?
wildfire overlay and posts might suggest masonry/concrete piers and floors, at least on the first level alternate would be massively oversized timber posts and beams, maybe in iron bark, so the members could use 50-100mm to charing
    regards from Alberta, Canada

    Wink Structural Engineer

    Hi
I don't know anything about your particular design but as far as my experience with engineers, I find they design to solve a problem, but don't come up with options and variations to suit you and your design concept.
You need to be very clear on your particular goals/vision or employ an architect.
Hope this is some small help.

Find a trustworthy and experienced architect/building designer and they will have an engineer they use regularly. Getting a soil report, survey and BAL report will be a good start towards putting a team together.

He does design and uses several good engineers - he could recommend someone for you.

He designed our future house, which was different from a normal box, and surprisingly cheap when compared to 'regular' architects.

    Good luck.
