Default Shipping container conversion done in Sketchup

HI all its been a long time since I have been here... 4 kids and work yada yada yada. Any way I have done some interesting projects in the last 2 years and there is one that I did that has received a lot of interest (over 110,000hits on you tube ) I also won $10000 sustainable building award )

Because I had so much interest I decided to animate the model so you could see exactly how I did it and so you can make one yourself. I still have the container and my father in law stays in it when he comes over. You could say its the gift that keeps on giving

If you want to get the model go here Ruby Sketch, Home, 3D Model Directory and type in container. you can drag and drop it straight into your Sketchup model from the download page. Everything is a component and is named, including sizes, the windows are dynamic and if you want a cutting list I can give you one.

If you do make a container home can you post or email or google+ me the photos I love to see variations to the design. Or if you have any better ideas feel free to add them. I can ask for them to be uploaded.

Just so you know I use rubysketch because all the sketchup models are for building there are no transformers or barbie dolls and every thing is to scale. RubySketch does need more content so if you have some please send it to me and I will get it uploaded. Its free just like 3d warehouse and you can drag and drop straight into your model
I wish you all a fantastic new year
If you have any constructive criticism or appropriate furnishings or building related models: send it on [email protected]I wll upload it and post the link when its done. Kind regards Andrew Dwight

    Default container

    hello
thanks for the design link, that is something I could use.
I have been looking at container designs for a mobile cafe in Japan. Müvbox Fast Food Shipping Container Restaurant | Inhabitat - Green Design Will Save the World

the link is for a company in USA & Canada, but theirs was just to expensive.
I have wood fire pizza oven catering in Japan and a small farm on the edge of a city where I grow culinary herbs etc. I wanted have a container cafe on the farm with the option to move it around to multi-day festivals & events.

    Post container restraunt

Hi Chikushi, I had a look at the link, I must say it looks expensive and like a good quality finish. I guess the best way to start is to figure out what you are capable of doing your self. A restaurant in Australia has to comply to several regulations, I'm not sure of the restrictions in Japan. The container it self is the cheep part, cutting fitting out and insulating is a reasonaby labour intensive task. I am happy to give you some tips on this or are you looking to buy a finished product? the best thing about a container is its strength but due to it being a place where food is t be prepared I suggest using a new container or a container that has been used for food. Eg refrigerated. If you don't know the history of a container which you probably won't there could be major contamination and health implications.
To be honest I would start from scratch with a solid steel base, welded columns and stainless steel sheeting I in the kitchen area. Add a budget here and someone if not me can give you an indication of how realistic it is. If you are planning on making from scratch Yu should either make it in Japan or have it designed so it can be packed into a container and put together in modules in japan. Home( I'm on I pad and I can't figure out how to get a link to the correct photo but if you go to Aadbuild and click on blog (media tab) you will see the container that I built but you will also see the modular building that we just finished) this is an example of a modular sales office we did from scratch for Mirvac homes. Built in 4 weeks delivered and finished and is able to be unbolted and moved in about 4 hours. I think this will be too large for what you want but I guess its an indication of what can be done.
If you need anymote info flick me an email and I will see if I can help more. Also reply here, I am sure one of the followers here may have some great advice as well. Good luck talk soon

Default The box is to keep the temperature at bay

I have added a thermostatic controlled air recirculating system. This was the first trial and it works better than I thought. Basically it takes the cool air in when the external temperature is lower than inside and the opposite in winter. You can leave the house and don't have to open the windows. Because the container is steel it accepts the cool and hot air very quickly and the insulation keeps it there. kind of like a six pack in an esky....
BTW it has solar and can be run off the grid for up to two weeks.
