TURBOCAD MAC 7 DELUXE support?
A heads up for the Mac owners to a potential problem,if you are intending to buy Turbocad Mac 7
I purchased a TurboCad Mac 7 Deluxe on special for $99.I am 62 and an old drawing board and set square man. This cad jargon of the new programmes is something that has not really clicked with me. I know, I need to go back to cad school basics.
No mention was made by Mind scape, the Australian vendors, at the time of purchase for the minimal lack of support available for the newest Mac cad version.
"Join the IMSI TurboCad Mac 7 Forum ",Mind scape said, but when I tried I was refused membership. An email to Mind scape and they said they would make inquiries.
After 3 weeks of inquiries, I have yet to hear from Mind scape.Mind you they still bombard my email address weekly with new offers despite unsubscription which does not seem to work..
Hopefully no more Mac owners from here should get caught by poorly supported programmes.
I have Googled around the web but at this point haven't found anything but Utube videos but they are not basic enough. Should a kindly forum member hear of a book -TurboCad Mac 7 for dummies -or similiar -would be nice-please pass it on if you know of something.
Thanks
Grahame

Hi Grahame,
I've got a Turbocad version that I've only used a couple of times. I found the Paul Tracey youtube videos the best thing to get me started. I followed the house building videos TurboCAD - Drawing House Plans 1 - YouTube which gave me enough info to start 2D drawing.
I also found some pdf tutorials from Textual Creations Shopping Page but haven't tried those.
Cheers, Franklin

Sorry to hear of your troubles with Turbocad Graham. I had a play with it a few years ago ( I'm also on a Mac ) and it was OK but for $99 I wouldn't have expected too much anyway although some customer support certainly wouldn't go astray in your case.
I guess I'm a bit biased and spoilt as I use Vectorworks to draw house plans fulltime and have done for nearly fifteen years so I am very familiar in using it but I have been using computers part time since 1992 and fulltime as I already mentioned which makes it a lot easier. Most stuff I do is still 2D ( floorplans and elevations ) but over the last few years have been doing more and more 3D.
This leads me to ask what kind of drawings are you trying to do - simple 2D plans and elevations of cabinets etc or something more complex ?
Some beginner DVDs or Youtube videos as Franklin says are exactly what you need.
Start off with something simple and work your way up.
I'll do a search for forums and see what I can find. Most cad programs have very helpful online forums that are usually only too happy to help so I am surprised at the hassles you are having.
Is this the forum you are trying to join ?

Thank you both Stewie and Franklin for your respective replies.
Thanks to you both for your time taken in doing so.
At last I am accepted as a member of the TurboCad MAC forum.
The problem was that the software for the membership applications saw me as a spammer. It was fixed after i emailed them and asked about the knock back
It seems to be a Forum with vastly fewer members than I anticipated and the members there are using prior versions of TurboCad Mac.
My attraction to it was
Mac orientated and and that it was 2d and 3D and affordable. Its too bad very few are using it and even fewer are talking about it.
It would seem that a different company to the ones that made the PC TurboCad version wrote/programmed , it for Mac.
My application is for drawing engineering components to be produced on lathe and milling machine. My background is that of a boilermaker but my passion is making swarf,so I was thinking about the 3 D there.
Now and again I would want the 2D capacity to do a bit of orthorgraphic work for any steel structural stuff I may want to do,and perhaps some sheet metal for layouts etc to.
I looked at the videos, but even the basics are above my simple level.I had to go and look up and entity. at this point I will search for something to introduce me to the basic terms. The transition from drawing on paper to an electronic form may prove difficult for me.

Well 3D in any program is not for the faint of heart least of all someone starting out in CAD or CAM etc.
Starting out in 2D is relatively easy and may make it easier for you to learn the basics before you jump from that to 3D. That is how I pretty much did it anyway and your mileage may vary as they say.
I also would have thought that the Mac version of TC wouldn't have been too dissimilar from the windows version meaning even if you couldn't figure something out then some advice from another user would have been helpful or at least put you on the right track.
That link I provided earlier also seems to have a lot of helpful beginner info as well.
Cheers, Stewie
