Thread: 4 wheel drive tyres

Hey sdrob, i run BFG AT's on SR5 rims 31/10.5/15. I got over a 100,000kms out my last set of tyres. In december i paid $225 a tyre, i think some one said there has been a price rise since then?

I move away from the Bridgestones' as the mileage was not there (65,000-70,000 kms). I now run BFGs' (31/10.5/15) and I get over 100,000 kms out of them on my Landcruiser. Current set I'll get near 120,000kms. Cost about $190 each at the time.

Haven't priced them lately as I still have about 15K-20K kms left in them.

IMO the BFG seem to be a harder compound and the sidewalls don't flex as much as the Bridgestones (less body roll).

Got to agree on the BFG's. Had them on my old Hilux, they done 80,000 when I sold it and still had +20-30 left I reckon.

Have them on my new Navarra, came with Bridgestones new, 21,000km and they were rooted. Put BFG's on, they have done 50,000 kms and are at about 1/2 tread depth.

Another vote for BFG AT's. I have run many brands on two different landcrusiers and the BFG's are by far the best.

Hi, The BFG's all terrains, these ones;

will give fantastic mileage. Our experience with them is that they tend to 'go hard' as the miles increase and they can be skatey in the wet.

We have had a good run from Mickey Thompson and also the Bridgestone D694's.

had some bfg long trail on my mazda 4x4 30,000 ks and they were very skiddy wet and dry , was not impressed . coopers seem to be a good brand . not fond of bridgestones original on new triton , around 30,000. should finish them. not brilliant , drive a lot of mountain ranges so staying on road is 1st wear way back , any recomendations?? cheers bob

Hi bob,

Original equipment tyres fitted from factory are designed to give the best ride and fuel consumption so generally wear quickly.

Sadly we cant have our cake and eat it too. The harder the compound the longer the mileage the worse the ride and grip. Given the mountains you probably want a mud and snow type of tyre, somewhere between an all terrain and a mud tyre. If you search the name brands they usually show them in a row from road to mud.
