    Default New to me 4wd

Just picked up this Nissan 4wd coil cab .
4.2litre Turbo diesel , 4" lift kit , 3 batteries with auto battery monitor water tank , air bag rear suspension ,spare wheel is under the tray ( tray has been raised to accomodate the spare wheel.
Front diff lock , heaps of other extras and a spares , including a new inter cooler kit which I plan to fit.
Under the canopy is insect mesh all round so it's good for rolling out the swag.

Will be my daily ride , and towing my boat into remote fishing spots , and a bit of pig shooting here and there.
Have to sell my Holden ute now ,not that I want to but the missus has spoken.

Nice pick up Kev. Next vehicle I'm getting is going to have black rims so I don't have to clean them.

    Kev,
I bought one of them last May.
    Love it.
They can pull a serious load!
Getting it sorted for a renewed interest in fishing and 4 wheeling. Getting back into the Victorian High Country is a treat. It's been about 15 years since I was into serious 4 wheeling.
Just about to get a canopy like yours made for mine. I can sleep across the tray.
Fitted a winch since the first picture, bolted straight in.
Last couple of 4WD's I had were old US stuff. A 1970 Inter Ute, and 1963 Willys pickup.

This is luxury motoring compared to them.

    Peter ,
Mine is a 2000 model , bloke who I bought it off has had it for seven years ,with no trouble .I think the 4.2L diesel is a time tested engine with a good reputation.
I plan to build a roof rack to go on top of the canopy to carry light stuff , swag etc.
The intercooler kit will be the first job , just have to get a bonnet scoop .

I see you have your spare on the roof rack , the guy who owned mine previously had the tray raised by about 2" and the spare goes under the tray , which puts it out of the way.

I have a great spot for fishing , but the track in is very rough ,but this vehicle will handle it easily.
One thing I like about the Nissan ute is the leg room compared to the Toyota .
I drove Toyotas for years ( work related) and always hated them for lack of leg room ,plus the upright seating position was not good either.
Nissan is not so squeezy .

    Kev,
Usually the spare is in the tray....and that ugly roof rack is a temp measure to get it out of the way for a couple of recent trips. I have sat myself under it with a tape and pencil and paper to re-design the towers to mount my tray so it will fit under my tray also. Up there It is shockingly noisy at any speed above 80kph.

My son was trying to talk me into a lift and bigger tyers, but I resisted and put those tyres on it, although he manages a tyre shop, and family and friends get a 40% discount, it still took my breath away. I'd forgotten how much they were!

I stopped at a car dealer just near here 2 weeks ago because I saw a 2000 model, gee wiz they hold their price down here, if what he wanted is an indication..... Just a little under $30,000.
Mine is a 2005 model, has 3" exhaust fitted, and seemed to me to have a good deal more grunt than others I drove when I was looking to buy one.

That last trip was into some good trout streams late Feb. I like to fly fish, and the rivers near the 2wd roads get hit pretty hard, and less then an hour into the hills, you have it all to yourself...nice!

I fitted a heavy duty adjustable drag link soon after I got it, after bending the original one dropping the front onto a huge rock first day out. woops. I was a little uncertain about how much I needed to give it to get up a pretty snotty hill, and gave it a little too much and launched it. Drove home with the steering wheel at an odd angle. The adjustable one is good, so I didn't have to take the steering wheel off to center it, and I get full steering both ways now.
I'm really impressed with how sure-footed they are with the coils all around. The leaf sprung stuff would tend to just slide into ruts that this one stays out of.

    Regards,
    Peter

Dunno Ray I seen some Toyotas come unstuck pretty early in thier life , just visit a remote community and you'll see what I mean.
Landrovers are a different kettle of fish ,especially the older models .
Landrovers and I just don't fit nicely together ,I have a space problem with them ,worse than toyotas.
Yes that's an Oka behind the Nissan , the reason he is selling the Nissan ,to rebuild the OKA , he plans to slot a Cummins 6 cylinder B series engine into it and an Isuzu six speed box.

    Peter ,
Mine is also fitted with a 3" exhaust with no restrictions, and I found out last night it also has a 4Terrain heavy duty after market clutch .
Im going to have to get him to show me all that this vehicle has fitted it seems to have more gadgets and stuff every time I speak to him.
He is taking it to the motor trimmer to get some work done on the rear canopy ,probably will get it some time this week . hopefully.
I can take some pics of the tray mounts if you would like.
