Pin 31b is the earth for the buzzer. It will only buzz if the lights are left on and the door is closed (interior light switch earthed). It normally is the drivers door switch that it is connected to.

My way of looking at it is that the OPs original circuit diagram shows that opening the door "closes" the door switch thus earthing one side of the interior light so that it works. This also earths the buzzer so it sounds when the door is open.

    Exactly.
My mate reckons it would be better to put the buzzer in the cab, he said you will only be able to have power from either Lo beam or hi beam there won’t be a wire that will have power for both. So the best bet would be to use Lo beam as you would be unlikely to leave hi beam on.
So you will need to find the wire coming from the light switch in the steering column that has power when Lo beam is on, and tee off that. And then tee off the wire going to the drivers door switch. Both these will be accessed from inside the cab, so you will only need short wires to go to the buzzer, cable tie that to the steering column or put it under the dash.
If I was nearby I would hook it up for you for a coffee or a beer, but unfortunately the distance is too far.
If you had access to a wiring diagram or a manual for your van you could get the colour of the wires you are looking for.
Whats the model of the van, I will google around in the morning to see if I can find a wiring diagram ?

I would choose the parking/tail lights wire as this covers all bases when the light switch is not in the off position.
