    Default Auto-electrics question

My battery keeps going flat because I forget to turn my headlights off. There’s no warning buzz or noise when I switch the ignition off to tell my lights are still on. It’s happened about 20 times in the last 6 months. My memory is going.
Is it difficult to wire in a warning buzz or beep beep when I kill the ignition to remind this old fool to turn off my headlights. Something under the bonnet would be good. Or maybe so that the lights go out when I turn the engine off.
Step by step plain English instructions and a drawing would be very excellent. Thanks in advance.

Supercheapauto sell a module that will do this.

Narva Headlights On Warning Buzzer - 85 Decibels, 12V | Supercheap Auto

The single review for it is not positive but there are plenty of others out there.
I see ebay has a few.

Narva make good stuff. I suspect the bad revue was an installation error rather than a malfunction. I had a look on the Narva site and while it's not plug and play it is reasonably easy to install. Much easier if you have the wiring diagrams for your car so you can find the correct coloured wires.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

    Default Arghh

6340F0CB-5A31-4020-9466-5D4B85B4CCA7.jpgThanx NC. I now have a Narva buzzer. The guy at auto barn printed out a wiring diagram for me which may as well have been written in ancient Egyptian. I looked under the bonnet (Toyota Hiace SBV 1996) and there a wires everywhere so I have no clue from the wiring diagram (which is meaningless to me)or the plethora of wires to help me connect the buzzer. The guy at the shop was telling me about the lugs on the buzzer and the different places to install but he lost me after the first few words. I’m a woodworker not a nuclear physicist.
Any instruction would be very much appreciated.
    thanks

Hi Sheddie, if that wiring diagram is for your new buzzer, take a photo and post it here. I am sure between us all, we will be able to help work it out.

Hi Brad. Just addd wiring diagram as provided. I want to put the buzzer under the bonnet. I assume the line with the Headlamp switch is the light switch on the steering column because I can’t see a switch under the bonnet. I also don’t know what all the numbers on the buzzer poles mean. The config I want is to wire the buzzer on the wire nearest the headlamps but what wires do I connect the buzzer to? It’s clear as mud

    Default Buzzer for lights

More pics. Photo of headlight wires in my van and a photo of the buzzer lugs. I’ve studied until I went cross eyed.

Wireing it to the wires at the lights won't work as you need to have the buzzer work if either the high or low beam lights are on.

The best place to get this connection is at the fuse box. You need the wire that goes to the lights from the fuse.

I also can't work out what the interior light connection has to do with headlights other than maybe the buzzer sounds when you open the door after you turn off the ignition.

If my memory serves me right.
The black on the back of the head light is earth,
The red is the main beam
White i think is the park light.

If you look at your wiring diagram on line,
The wires I think should be numbered, that number will follow back to your fuse panel.

    I think I’m right,
But it’s been a while since I played with the spaghetti under a bonnet or dash.

    Cheers Matt.

Thanks for that. If I have start fooling with the fuse box I’ll just save up some money and take it to a gynaecologist...I mean Auto Electrician (who think they are gynaecologists).
I can’t understand why it’s so damn difficult..

It’s not difficult if you play with that stuff all day everyday.
But if you don’t, it looks very very complicated.

A descent auto Eleltrician should have that installed with in an hour.
    But don’t quote me [emoji6].

Ok, you will need to find a wire in your headlight circuit that has power when you turn the headlights on, it will need to have power weather hi or Lo beam is on. The one that’s labeled door switch, will give the buzzer an earth when the door is opened.
Without looking at your van with a meter or testlight in my hand , I can’t help with the power wire.
But I will ask a mate who’s an autolecky when I go to work tonight.
