    Default My Bike

    Bought a real beauty of a bike last Spring, BMW R1200RT what a great piece of work. Managed to to put 4500kms. on it before storing it for Winter. Winter here is from November to April with some snow still into May.

    I've never seen rear crash bars on any of the 259 flat twins before, are they a local (Canadian) type of thing?

    Mick I know those bars wouldn't do much in a crash, they more or less protect the bike if it falls over in a parking lot or like wise. They are made by Wunderlich.

    I see, didn't know about them, but then again Wunderlich have a squillion different things you can add to your machine, some useful, some not so useful.

    This was taken last September for a Spring camping trip the evening before I was leaving, if you look carefully you can see the lowered pillion foot peg holders. They too are a Wunderlich item, and, before you ask, yes the tank is a 41 litre unit, something often quite helpful on trips in this country.

    Nice bike Mick, and yeah that is one huge gas tank. I wanted to buy the BMW GSA but my legs are a little short.

    Well I am only 173cm so pretty small and not so long legs, plus this is the 1100 which is physically the smallest of the 259 GS machines. It also uses the least amount of fuel as it is, in my opinion, the best geared of all of them.

    I'm not too sure about the latest ones coming out with the water cooled boxer motor, but I think the 1100 is still the best geared. Essentially it was geared to work in the dirt and be reasonable on the bitumen, whereas most, if not all of its successors, have slowly moved closer and closer to a road bike.

    What you have is probably the best thing with regard to your pillion, the seats on your bike, I presume, are electrically heated? As for the grips being heated, it goes without saying.

    Do you use an electric vest?

    I've been running electric vests of one sort or another since 75/76, currently running a BMW vest, best I've had so far.

    You know Mick the seats and grips are both heated but I have not used them yet, when it gets cold and snowy I park it and use this.

    I will probably not get the motorcycle on the road till May. The model is actually a R1200RT-LC and I love it.
