A few months ago I finally bought my own transport. This a CJ43a Skywave, maybe known as Burgman 250/AN250 elsewhere. It was a bit rough when I got it, which is to be expected for roughly $800 bike. The main reason I chose this over many others was the rear box and the fact the seat wasn't torn or ripped.

Front wheel bearings needed replacement and I put new tyres on as well. The foam air cleaner had disintegrated, so that was fun to clean out. Was getting a bit hard to start, and after much looking around the common view was that the switches needed disassembly and cleaning. They were mostly right. I also pulled all the fuses out and used a bronze brush to clean up the legs and a bit of contact cleaner in the fuse box itself. Kicks over easily now, and overall the bike runs well. I've actually really enjoyed riding this thing, much more than I expected, after only having ridden "proper" bikes before. I'd like a go on the 400, but then I'd be getting away from my reasons for buying this.

Due to some vagaries of the laws here, bikes under 250cc don't need to go through the 2 year inspection routine, and bikes over 150cc can be ridden on motorways. This quite comfortably handles 2 people and also has a large amount of storage under the seat, which has been great for the Costco runs. The other major point is that basically you can park this anywhere you can park a bicycle - car parking spaces around here are about $150/month, which is the main reason I've never bought a car.
