The Honda S2000 was never offered with it in Oz and Honda have told me that fitting the OEM system from the States would basically require rewiring most of the car (different loom, MASSIVE headache), so that's a no-go. I have the factory steering wheel control pod and can get the master dash switch easily on ebay, but I need to find an installer who'd be willing to wire up an aftermarket system to the OEM controls so it at least looks factory. It sounds simple enough to my mind, unless I'm missing something...

Also, any recommendations of a good cruise system for a cable accelerator?

No. That isn't how they build wiring looms. Almost certainly everything exists except some switch gear and maybe a separate control unit. They were assembled in Japan, so no need to go to US for bits.

I can't figure out if any of the local cars have it, but they are cheap. I should buy one and send it back.

From what I've read, only the US got cruise as standard and the JDM models only got it as an option from the second gen (2004 on), that's why I need to go to the US. Mine is a 2003 model, so there's no RHD hardware that I'm aware of. I'd need to replace the pedals because the normal ones don't have the brackets for the cruise disable switches, replace the dashboard because there's no cruise control light position, replace the ECU because there's nowhere for the cruise module to plug in...you get the idea.

I've asked Honda about it, and they were adamant that it's not a simple plug-and-play job and every forum I've read says the same thing.

If you know of anywhere in Japan where I could get the factory system for RHD I'd love to know.

EDIT: I have just gone through all the manuals on Honda Japan's website and cruise control does not appear in any of them.

My friends FIL deals in cars, I'll ask him when I get a chance. Cruise control is a pretty useless option here, but I suppose they must have it.

I presume the S2000 uses a form of CANBUS? If so therein lays the problem. I know enough about CANBUS to be dangerous and to retrofit stuff is usually a major headache. As you say it will need switches or a CANBUS signal from the brake pedal, clutch pedal, speed sensors and whatever other stuff Honda would have included to control it including (possibly) a different BCM. If it doesn't use CANBUS then ignore all the above. Replacing wiring harnesses in modern cars is fairly easy just horrendously expensive, read thousands of dollars. My son does this for a living and the prices he quotes on harnesses would make a rich man poor and Honda spares were never cheap.

Just spied an early NSX for $5000. My all time dream car and I can actually afford it...I don't know how to feel.

Apparently no canbus before 2006, which is when they went drive by wire. That probably explains why there was no stability control until then either.

The NSX here starts around $100k, double that for manual
Even S2k prices have gone nuts, some asking $50-60k

Looking again more closely, carefully, and soberly, I may have missed a 0 on the NSX. Still, $50k...if I have it one year and one day...nil import duties I believe...

Now I'm getting OT...but what really interests me is Atenza wagons, and Premacys for around $2-3k...most under 100,000km, but up to 120. Nice.

Will make some inquiries re cruise control on that Honda...

Not so far...

Like I said before, an OEM conversion will be a big ask. Been reading some more and apparently the steering wheel buttons connect through the "reel" in the middle wheel, so there's another part that also might be different outside the US where cruise wasn't available. Even if it is possible, the parts list will cost thousands, even with used parts (and assuming I can find them all).
