Default Football, meatpies, kangaroos & Holden cars

What's going to happen to GMH?

Uncle Tom, who worked for Qantas, had a Holden FX, his pride and joy, no doubt your uncle had one to. He maintained that car to perfection.

Sadly uncle Tom is no longer with us, or his FX.

Here are a couple of videos about the birth of GMH.

The Holden Story part 2 - YouTube

It seems had we been left to our own devices without interference from the US, we might have made it.

    Hi,

I probably shouldn't get into this but.... Unions, small population and high pay versus no unions, big populations and little pay. Oz (and pretty much the rest of the first world) manufacturing was never gonna be competitive for ever. We'll all be driving Cherry's and Great Walls eventually .

My brother used to work for GMH at Elizabeth, until about 4years ago, reckons the writing was on the wall then. It will go the same as bitsaminin (Mitsubishi), 100 Chinese will come for 2-3 months and dismantle the whole works into containers.

Thanks but no thanks, couldn't personally care if oldens and 'frauds are made here. Never owned one, never would. Give me my 10 year old Alfa anyday or even better still my classic Alfas and Fiats. Have only ever owned such Italian cars, am not likely to own anything else. Though might be tempted one day to have a classic Merc, or Porsche.
