    Default Guzzi. Made for Australia

I spotted this latest offering from Moto Guzzi to celebrate their 100th anniversary, a V100 Mandello and found myself wondering if it was designed specifically to appeal to the Australian market.

As this model has not yet made it to the Aussie website, I visited the Italian site and there it was, resplendent in green and gold. I don't really give a monkey's if you consider I have a cynical nature: I want one!

    Regards
    Paul

Ps: Very unlikely to get one.

I’d rather have a red one; much faster!

It's very angular looking - I prefer the curvier art deco look.

Here's one on my brothers modded (1980's) Guzzi.
Modified frame, new tank, new electric harness, Li-ion battery, new instruments, motor is stock but I believe he did something with the carbys.

The main problem with the old Guzzi's was the electrics - the motor was not that stressed and did not give many problems. Since my brother replaced the wiring hardness its run faultlessly for about 6 years.

    More curvy?

This is the last motorcycle I owned and the only Moto Guzzi:

I sold it in 1980. It seems like yesterday, but by my count forty one years ago! Boasting 53bhp it had less than half of the V100's 115bhp (about 86KW). It had long legs. Good for nearly 125mph: More if you believed the speedo.

The Mandello is gorgeous. I haven't stopped lusting since I saw it in an article. Finally a Guzzi with power. I spose I could sell myself on a street corner but at my age I think I would have to pay them!

I don't ride but Italian cars are awesome to drive in most cases, I used to do laps of a big roundabout years ago in an Alfasud just to enjoy how it handled. I worked for a dealer who sold Lancias & I thought the HPE was a fantastic car apart from the switches which felt they would break every time you used them and the smoke that periodically appeared from the Magnetti Marelli electrics. Lucas was not even a close competitor in that regard. A customer who owned a Lancia came in one day to sort out all the Italian Lancia problems and told us we had 6 months to get it right as he was going OS for that period and he thought that may be long enough to sort it out. Another Lancia arrived and we could not fill it because they had fitted a unleaded fuel filler and that was years before we got unleaded.

I drove an Alfa GTV 1600 for about 3 years in the mid 70's. The only electrical problem I had was the windscreen wiper motor died in the middle of winter. At the time I was teaching at a country high school about 300 miles from the parts supplier and it took 6 weeks to get a replacement. The only real mechanical failure was I did a clutch spring in but that was probably my fault. Fortunately the Perth dealer had that in stock so I got it in 3 days. The school was also a farm school so they had excellent mechanical facilities but what I needed was a spline alignment tool which one of the manual arts teachers just so happened to have. It turns out he had been a mechanic for a US Alfa racing team. He also gave me a hand to pull the gearbox out and replace the spring.Without him I really would have been stuck. The worst thing about that car was it only really stayed in full tune for about a month after tuning and after that it would slowly go off the boil but when it was on song it was so much fun.

Just for the record, my 2003 EV1100 California. I even blew the dust off it and took it for a ride a week or 2 ago, might even get a chance to take her out on the weekend

I don't know much about the new one but to all those making snide remarks about reliability..

I have an acquaintance who put two MILLION kilometres on a lemans. I can't remember how many times he rode around Australia.

I rode mine as everyday transport for years. To work through the week and scratching/touring whenever I could.

The only bike I know of that can eat miles with less work is a K series BMW. The twins break and need more maintenance and $$$! than the old guzzi twins.

Anyway the bike at the top is pretty but if I were to miraculously get my sight back I's be looking for a cali stone. Footpegs and minimal decoration. As long as you can keep the FI and electrics sorted they are a delight to ride and you can't kill 'em with an axe.
