Handy hint #1
If your cruise control stops working check your brake light fuse. After using a trailer with faulty wiring by brake light fuse blew and I had no cruise control in my Mazda 6 (2004). It's only because I figured that the cruise control and brake light switch must be linked that I thought to check the brake light fuse, there is no fuse for the cruise control, and no mention of it in the manual. The dealer prolly would have charged a bomb to fix it.

The electrickery in modern vehicles can be a real pill.
A mate had the shock changed recently on his new motorbike. There was nothing electrical involved but somewhere along the way a sensor was triggered and the ECU sent an error code to the speedo console.
Recently with the Forester I had a flat battery. The system went into failsafe mode of some kind, triggering the engine warning light and turning off the cruise control. That remained even after charging the battery. It meant finding a mechanic in the country with the right diagnostic kit and codes to reset it.Cheers, Ern
