Not really, I wasn't having problems going in a straight line, the situation I was in was doing a right hand curved turn, where I couldn't see anything on the passenger side at all. My mirrors are generally set so I catch cars beside me not behind me. Your comment also begs the question of the car mirror designs. My current ones are just peep holes compared to some others I have used. And don't get me started about how much vision the Crapadore front pillar robs. I have a long down hill sweep near home and the entire on coming lane is hidden for at least a hundred metres.

    Default Problem solved!

No longer need to worry about a trailer (or the added expense)

I got a quote for $600 to move the fridge, washing machine and the troublesome machine tools. This will lighten the van load to a safe point (under 1000kgs) with the added bonus that there will be nothing I can't load myself.

Now I just have to wait for the rain to stop so I can make some wooden boxes.

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions.

Very good. I am glad you've found a good solution.

I hope to move to the NSW south coast if I ever sell my properties up here. That's going to present a similar logistical nightmare. I feel for you.

you could always use the time to practice backing your van
from your previous photos, it looks like your gate is 8' wide.
Merc says the van's less than 2m wide -- heaps of room
grab some bit's of timber and head for the nearest industrial area (which will be empty today) and practice reversing
It's a skill you'll need when you get to Tassie

The driveway is 2metres wide and the van is 1993mm wide so, as you say plenty of room.
Unfortunately the driveway between the footapath and house is only 5 metres long, the van is just under 7metres. I could manoeuvre past the front of the house and perhaps the van would JUST fit and overhang the footpath perhaps by 300mm. The problem with this is that there would be no room to open the doors and get out ! The cargo barrier and passenger seats prevent egress via the side or rear cargo doors.
Actually spent some time in a deserted carpark over the weekend and reversing it is not too bad.
