Light bar2014 Mazda 2
Hi all,
I have just purchased a light bar for the wife's car as she comes home late at night and we live in a semi rural town and plenty of Roos, Possums etc yesterday I tried to install it and for the life of me I could not find a hole, grommet or opening for the switch cable at all.
Just wondering if anyone could advise me where I may be able to feed the cable through without hopefully having to drill a hole.
Thanks

I'll ask my son who is a Mazda tech but the bigger problem will be if the light switching is done by CANBUS though I doubt that is the case. If CANBUS it is easily doable but you need a controller.

Here’s a wiring diagram for a Mazda 2 2014 1.5l. By the look of it, Canbus is used for dash high beam indicator etc. signal from the multifunction unit.
Should be easy enough to connect a light bar relay solenoid to a high beam fuse/relay output to ensure the light bar only works on a High beam. Other side of relay solenoid would be to your switch and earth.

If the high beam is switched by CANBUS a relay cannot be used AFAIK but I am unclear on that from Lappa's post. I have added driving lights to my car and had to use this to control the high beam switching. Note the price difference between the two links for the same item.

I agree IF the High beam is switched by CanBus. However, Relay K40’s switching contacts go from a 200A fusible link via the switching contacts to fuses 17 and 18 then to the H/beam globes then earth. To tap into those fuses or relay contact output going to the H/beam globe (to control the light bar relay solenoid) is NOT in the CanBus circuit although relay K40’s solenoid may be.

I tend to agree with Lappa that CANBUS is controlling the high beam relay coil but the relay is controlling the lights, and even with faulty globe detection, an additional 100mA draw for the coil on a lightbar relay should not be an issue, provided of course that the bulk power for the lightbar is sourced directly from the battery with a protective fuse.
Not familiar with the M2 electrics, but assuming a small car, small motor, small alternator and small battery, I would be concerned about the additional current draw over longer distances affecting the vehicle reliability. Unless there is definitely significantly more reserve capacity in the alternator than the extra draw for the lightbar, using the lightbar may be drawing upon the battery reserve capacity, which can ultimately discharge it to the point where there is not enough power left to keep the motor and other loads operating. I have experienced this issue in the past in the middle of the night on long country trips with alternator failures and it is not fun.
Generally speaking, if you can locate a loom passing through the firewall, (often under/behind carpets etc) it is possible to wriggle an additional small cable through between the loom and grommet. However this is not particularly helpful if all looms pass through the firewall with bulkhead mounted connectors.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.
