For the Love of Cars - Triumph Stag - ABCTV
For the Love of Cars - Triumph Stag - ABCTV
I watched this today on iView; it was broadcast last night.
Good show, but, ...
The tool abuse, and obvious lack of everyday knowledge and experience by the "car getter and fixer" man when pulling down the engine, was hard to take.
Probably staged for TV, but really depressing just the same to view it.
And, ... I think they did not investigate enough the reasons for the failures in V8 engines in this otherwise great car. There is plenty of detailed info around on the web.
After the show, I went into my shop and cleaned up some spanners.Last edited by mike48; 31st July 2014 at 09:58 PM. Reason: typo

G'Day Mike... I taped it and watched today too and found it an interesting show..
The engineering shop of the formula one trainer bloke seemed to suggest that the engine & its cooling system were well engineered.....maybe it was just a case of poor rushed assembly processes in the Leyland factory that stuffed it up...
I'm enjoying the series...Mini's next week.. Cheers, crowie

I was involved with Leyland at the time and the Stag had many issues mostly cooling related. I can recall some temp gauges getting modified so that they read low to fool the customer into believing it had been fixed. On real problem cars we were putting louvres in the bonnet as the bottom of all the issues was the lack of escape for all the hot air. The Dolomite & TR7 had all the same issues just half the cylinders.

Sabotage???
I thought that Ant (the mechanic) said the cooling systems were not installed properly, and I have heard that cars were sabotaged when pay rises were refused.
