What should I offer
Am looking at a new van.
The Renault traffic long wheel base been driving a rental one for a week and I'm quite impressed.
Maybe I should be asking what will they do for me the dealer ship that is.
There for court price is $37990 drive away
Now I want also the factory roof rack around $1600.
Plus the cargo barrier around $600 I think fitted.
So that's
$40,199 drive away all on road costs 12 months rego.
So the big $ question is what should I be looking at paying how much do you think I can get them to drop there price by its end of year nearly.
I know there is a new model out mid next year.
I've been over the finance available with the company account.
That's all good so the question is not what we can afford.
But how much in real terms($) should I see them doing for us the car dealer that is.
For them to see me sign on the last page.
And yes its first time buying a new car.
The rest have all been private buys.
Thanks in advance
Matt

There is a site that will shop for the best deal but I'd be reckoning on no more than 35k

Its going to depend if you have a trade-in or not?
I always tell them I have no trade-in and I'll give old car to nephew.
They will usually come down at least 5% from full.
If you have a trade-in they stay on full price and inflate your trade-in to include the 5%.
after you get the 5% off ask them what the trade-in would be as then you'll know what to charge your nephew (you can then trade in if you want at that price).
but at least you have realistic prices and not rubbish prices.
For the extras don't offer to pay them more than half the price.
The other thing is ask them their final once only price, you will not go through the backwards and forwards of beating others prices, and we'll add free service if you come back, and we'll "look after you" etc.
Tell them you will ask each dealer for a price and will be buying from the cheapest, NO TO AND FRO rubbish, if they don't want to give a price they are off the list.
You have not got the time for the back and forward stuff.
Tell them you also want to know delivery times (whats in stock and on the way), I once waited 4 months for a delivery.

See if you can find the biggest dealer around for the particular make. Dealers receive different pricing from the OEM based on volume, so larger dealers should have more capacity to negotiate.

my 2 cents
try and make the buy at the very end of the month when the dealer might still be trying to make their monthly target.
if buying off the floor -- i.e. dealer's stock look at the compliance plate and offer less for plates more than 4 or 5 months old.
the vehicle will be very much last year's model on Jan 1.regards from Alberta, Canada

Thanks ian
That's not a bad idea at all
Except that I need to make a decision soon then later
Due to our present car being very very broken
But of course I haven't let the dealer ship know that

When you trade in or sell the vehicle later, your price will be determined by the build date on the vehicle ID plate, rather than the compliance plate fitted upon importation to Aus. Therefore check the build plate as well as the compliance plate, it is not uncommon to find the vehicle is 6 months when the compliance plate is fitted. Resale value will be based on the older build date. If the build is 12/2013 and the compliance is 4/2014, it would be classed as a 2013 model and 2 years old after Jan 1, i.e out the door and 2 years depreciation within 3 weeks of purchase.
