    Default Qld Rego

    Hei Guys,
Can anyone tell me if I have to pay duty on an interstate rego transfer.
I paid this when I bought the car in 09 in WA so it seems bit (a lot) of a rip off paying it again on a car I have owned for 2 years.

Even if I get away with using the lowest redbook trade in value I'm still looking at an extra $160 - if they make me use the lowest retail value on Redbook that jumps to $250.

I'm tempted to keep the thing on WA rego but that complicates insurance and being in a small town the cops know the car.

Also, can anyone tell me who the best is for CTP, there's only $6 between the lot.
    Cheers

You don't have to pay stamp duty twice in any state as far as I know. If you can prove the vehicle has been registered in your name previously no stamp duty. I brought 2 vehicles to QLD from NSW in 95 and didn't have to pay the tax. You can email qld transport to get a definitive answer if your still concerned.

As for ctp they are all mandated the same money. Some offer extra cover or whatever. Personally I have as much of my insurance with suncorp as I can. They are not the cheapest but at the pointy end of insurance they are consistently the best, as many people found out in January when their houses got wet. My car got hit about 5 - 6 years ago, B pillar. Luckily it was a falcon and I walked away. Suncorp were magnificent when I was a shaking wreck on the side of the road and after when it came to delivering the cheque, enough to buy an equivalent car and not be out of pocket.

NRMA lost about $2500 in premiums a years some years back over the way they mucked my partner about when her house got robbed. Yeah they pay up, but not the full amount and only after they make your life hell when your already in a bad way.

You do what you think is appropriate, but they will see no more of my money, and CGU, AXA and most of the others are worse...

Thanks Damian, looks like Suncorp is the way to go.
