I turned up some old footage as a result of looking at the latest TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) venture. It was a nostalgic look at the 1985 Bathurst race. Jaguar has a 1 - 2 victory with their cars.

The funny thing for me was that I had joined a new company in 1982 and got into a serious discussion about who could win at Bathurst with my immediate supervisor. hHe was adamant that nothing could touch the V8s from Holden and Ford. I maintained that the Jaguar XJS was faster straight off the showroom floor than the Falcons and Commodores, but he wasn't having any of that, being somewhat chauvinistic (so was I of course ).

Jaguar entered for the first time in 1985. It seems I was vindicated.

One thing I have always wanted to see again , the most exiting Motor cycle race I ever watched.

The 1989 Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. Wayne Gardner won.
It has to be the Channel 9 call from Darrel Eastlake and Barry Sheene.

I watched the MC races for a year or two before that race but what a thing the 1989 one was!!!

Ive searched and searched and never found what I saw that afternoon that was broadcast live.
Nearly lifted the roof off the house yelling at the TV that day.

I just searched the internet and YT . I never asked CH 9 which may be a good idea.

The lead changing nineteen times over thirty laps sums up the excitement level. Motorcycle racing allows a level of excitement that is rarely seen in the four wheel brothers mainly because they don't take up so much space on the circuits.

At the time I was posting this I also turned up a You Tube video on the rise and rise of Honda during the early sixties. In particular they featured the technology around the 50cc category, which was remarkable. How can a 50cc machine achieve top speeds around 120mph? That is what Honda (and others like Kreidler) did with their twin cylinder mini that revved to over 20,000rpm! That was over sixty years ago: Go straight to the 7min 40sec mark for the ultimate 50cc Honda.

It provided a development platform for Honda's multi cylinder race and production machines.

Those 500cc two stokes were beasts of things. These days most loses are front end tucks, back in the day there were many more high sides, man they must have hurt. There have been so many epic World Superbike battles over the years it's hard to know where to start.

I never get tired of watching Ari Vatanen at Pikes Peak in 1988 before they sealed the road.

and their 6 cylinder 250s. The 125 configuration was transverse!

The NR500 had oval pistons and eight valves per cylinder, but was not successful and Honda had to revert to two stroke technology. The RC116 50cc had a nine speed gearbox. The 125 you mentioned had eight speeds.

I recall going across to the Isle of man TT races in 1974 and on the ferry from Liverpool there was a bloke imitating the sound of a 50cc racer. He was making a buzzing sound using a hair comb and "blipping" for the gear changes like some demented bee.

Drifting in the wet. Priceless. I stole the title of this post before you could claim it. What grabbed me was how a saloon (sedan in our money) was able to keep up with the roadster. I never did work out what the black saloon was. One of you will have to enlighten me.

Paul,
The Salon is a 1928 Frazer Nash an it’s supposedly rare, because all the other cars are a dime a dozen [emoji849].
The body was possibly coach build, ie back in the day you brought a chassis, then found a local Coach builder too build a body on it for you.
