There should be no need for toll's, back in the seventies there were Australia wide truck blockades to force the introduction of a fair user pays system, result was a tax on fuel to pay for roads etc, so all of us who buy fuel are allready paying our way.

Yep exactly.
As for removing my plates, when I moved here from WA and changed to Qld rego I had to hand in the old plates and drive for about a month with no plates on the car - I never got stopped once, didn't even get stopped at petrol stations which suprised me.
So given that experience, as long as I don't get busted during the actual removal/replacement I don't see myself having a problem.

There used to be the old wives tale that if you painted your plates with acrylic clear coat (automotive paint) that the camera flash would reflect too much. Don't know if it works or not. Neither do I condoned breaking the law by trying to avoid tolls or speeding tickets, but saying that, just because it's law doesn't mean it's right. You have to stand up for what you believe in but you also need to be aware of the consequences of your actions.
