News is pretty much non-existent on commercial TV, most of it is tripe.

The sheila on 5G is excellant. No mini skirts and low cut tops, she's a pro driver with a razor sharp sense of humour, but you really have to listen for the comments.

BTW after years of putting up with second rate PVR's I finally lashed out and bought a Panasonic 350, 250 gb hard drive, 2 HD tuners and a DVD burner. Only had it a week or 2 but it's absolutely the sweetest $800 I've spent in a long time. Topfield is rubbish, my 4410 lasted 18 months.

That's a mistake. I could have seen it going to international spinoffs like TG did.

Oh well the "rested" TG for a year maybe 5 will bring it back...

That is a shame, though it was not as outwardly entertaining as TG. Tiff Needal is an internationally rated driver and Vicki was definitely not hard on the eyes and she could pedal a car as well which was a bonus. I tired of TG a few years ago as I thought it became repetitive, I had pretty much every episode until a hard drive crashed and I never bothered to get them again and that is from someone who avidly downloaded them on torrents the night they became available.

I flick between 7 and 9 at 6 trying to get news, then settle down at 9:30 for real news and Lateline later on 2.

I tend to agree about the repitiveness - though I still thorougly enjoy it!

I guess I just enjoy the anti-political correctness of it all.

Fifth Gear IS a car show; after watching many episodes of Top Gear and enjoying them immensely , I have come to the conclusion that Top Gear is, in fact, "car ".

Be honest now guys, who would not like to flog an Aston Martin around a racetrack and do doughnuts? And who doesn't like their scorn for "political correctness" ?

It is not show about cars. Let's face it, who really cares how the Porsche GT 3 compares with Ferrari 356? Real people never have that problem as either car costs north of $300,000. Real people have to compare how a Makita drill stacks up with a Bosch drill.

But we can dream and fantasise that WE are flogging the Aston Martin or skidding around in a Ferrari. That's its appeal, and why I think of it as "car " . And I just love it!!

    Car it is

I just wish that Richard Hammond didn't think he was sooooooo cool for having crashed at 285mph - he used to be my favourite, but I find him too poncy nowadays

So my favourite has to be James May - purple striped jersey an all

So your trading "reality TV" for socialist propoganda and thinking the latter is more realistic ?

Beer': Have to disagree. I've owned a string of classic sports cars, and some of my relatives and friends own newer versions of the more exotic stuff, porsche, aston etc. so those choices are probably somewhat relevant to me. Also, and I accept I'm unusual in this respect, when I do driver training I find the skid pan about the most boring bit. Perhaps a lifetime of motorcycle riding has left me a bit cold on getting out of shape, the results can be painful. On the other hand watching a better driver than me sort out corners just right really holds the attention. I have the very great pleasure of having my ladyfriend who is one of the best drivers I've ever been in a car with. Just sitting in the passenger seat as she pushes velvet smooth through a string of corners, and be stunned by her superhuman reactions is better than you know what

So it's probably horses for courses I suppose. I much prefer 5th gear. TG was funny for 5 minutes, but the joke is old.
