I can’t remember the exact name Paul, but don’t take this personally, it’s too stop D. H. From over loading the suspension an bottoming out the car, Ute.

Kind of like a insurance from the manufacturer.

Ie if you load your Ute with timber an one bottle of Red wine an have a look under the Ute an can’t see daylight between the top of the Rubber an the Ute, possibly take off the Bottle of wine an see if you can see more than 1 mm of daylight.

I read your post far too quickly,

I think your taking about an Anti tramp stop or bar, not too be confused with a Movement in the US too stop a certain low class individual.

If it is, it’s purpose is too stop the Leaf springs whipping or bending too far under heavy acceleration, probably something you won’t need too worry about [emoji6][emoji6] unless you’re right foot suddenly feels very heavy while driving.

Thanks everybody for the information. I am still not clear whether it is intended to be a physical restraint or merely an indicator. Next time I overload the vehicle, I will inspect the device to see where it sits. In fact, it was as we were inspecting the condition of the leaf springs as they don't seem to have very much curvature left in them, that we noticed what I now know is called a "Leaf Spring Mass Damper."

I have always found the naming of car suspension parts confusing. To my mind, the springs are the shock absorbers and the shock absorbers are dampers.

Neck snapping acceleration is not an issue as my ute is only a six cylinder.

A mass damper is added there to control harmonic vibrations, it has nothing to do with the physical action of the spring.
On the later models of the Holden leaf spring vehicles they moved these 2 dampers to the differential housing which did a better job of removing unwanted vibrations.

Falcon RTV Utes have factory tramp rods fitted as they have an lsd.
Dunno that commodores ever had them.
