2 excellent software freebies for PCs
MS Security Essentials, new version
I don't use this but have read recommendations from folks in the industry, as a reliable, free and comprehensive solution to internet security.
Click
Secunia PSI (Personal S/w inspector)
Now in version 2 and I have been using it on the machines in the house.
Works a treat.
Scans your programs and OS for vulnerabilities and will if you tell it to automatically source and install patches and updates.
By default it loads at boot and scans in the background but that's overkill in my book and can be turned off.

Another bit of really good software
My daughter works as an IT professional Uni library, and you can imagine that place is full of brilliant hackers.
For security of passwords, they have found the free software Password Safe is virtually unbreakable, and everyone uses it there.
You can download it from here. You can store all your different passwords in this safe, which is great, because I use different ones for different applications, and often forget them.
To open the Password Safe you only need the one key password to remember. Make it random, like the first initials of your children and grandchildren etc. The greater the number of characters, mixed with Upper case and numbers, the more secure it is.regards,
Dengy

I use Roboform for that application; it also fills in forms.
