Interesting. I'd say the board is just modern enough to support it. Win98 can support the larger hard drive with an updated Fdisk program for initial partitioning. Usually needs some updated drivers too, but you may have just been lucky. I can assure you it doesn't always work smoothly.

Windows* XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98 SE, Windows 98, and Windows NT* 4.0 do not provide native support for hard drives that are larger than 137GB. 48-bit LBA support can be added with XP service pack 1
Reality is no background music.

Most Hard disk manufactures have download software which manages and set up larger had drives
