403 Forbidden
I'm trying to access a Forum I visit regularly, but now cannot.
Each time I try I get the following error message.
403 Forbidden
Access to this resource on the server is denied!
I have been in touch with the Forum Administrator, and he advises me that there is no valid reason why I should'nt be able to access the site. He has tried a few things from his end, but to no avail.
If the problem is eminating from my computer, how can I fix it?
A quick answer would be appreciated.

403 Forbidden means the file that you viewed on the server (webpage) doesn't exist anymore, it's nothing to do with your computer. It actually occurs when the person who owns the website creates a 'folder' and puts nothing in it or removes the contents of the folder. E.G.
http://www.website.com/folder/index.html
index.html is the file and 'folder' is the folder which contains the index.html file. If you remove the index.html file and look at the website like this:
http://www.website.com/folder/
Then you will get a 403 error.
Hope this makes sense.
Scott.

Hi Scotty,
According to the Forum owner and Administrator, there is nothing wrong at his end.
It's a fairly well known web site called The Needlebar.org
Looks like I'm stuck.

Depends on what you're after on the website however a '403' error is DEFINITELY something wrong with the website. The forum owner/administrator sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. What was the original website address you were looking at to elicit the error?

Hi Ken, link works fine for me, try this link and if it fails cut and paste the exact message (screen shot would be even better).

Joez,
Your suggestion did not work.

Works OK for me.
The only suggestion I can make is to flush your browser cache and delete any cookies for the site.Geoff

Hi Snowy,
When it comes to computers, I'm hopeless. Same goes for women.
Step by step, how do I flush my browser cache and delete cookies?
I use Firefox.

Ken,
Under the Tools tab there's a menu option that says Clear Recent History.
If you click on that, you'll get a list of things that can be cleared.
Select Cache and Cookies.
If you don't want to delete all of the cookies, then you can selectively delete them in the Preferences menu.
From the Edit tab, select Preferences
On the Preferences popup, select the Privacy tab and click the Cookies button.
This will give you a list of all of the cookies your system has stored. You can type a match string to just get the correct cookies listed and then delete them.Geoff

My mistake, I run Linux and my description applied to that.
Under the Windows version, click the Tools tab and then the Option tab.
This is where you'll find the cookie info.
Did you run the first part and actually delete private info including cookies? If so, there's no need to do the second part as all of the cookies will be gone.Geoff
