Ad blocking.
Using an iPad with Safari.
Now have those annoying Google click bait ads at the top of every page in every thread which I am not interested in and want to eliminate. Don't have any problems or issues with our sponsors and am happy to see them.
Have looked at various Adblock bits and pieces which have various pros and cons, have discovered that there may be a better solution but not being a full techie but having some idea I would like to get some confirmation.
Anyone heard of or used speedmeup.net which is a proxy work around?
Any thoughts for/against much appreciated.Regards,
Bob

Thanks for that Neil, have been there and contributed to the thread, have also been to the link from Ubeaut.
As I have stated, don't have a problem with our forum sponsors but these extras are not acceptable and I now feel that I need to resist. It is an invasion of privacy and tracks, or at least attempts to track what I do and say. There is also no guarantee that the collected info is not on sold and contributes to on going spam - the absolute scourge of the internet.
I guess the ideal for me would be a non-tracking, whitelist enabled application which would allow me to do the controlling as to who sees what I do, see or say and what is done with that info - not to roll over and allow someone or group to try and make a quid.Regards,
Bob

Bob, whilst I do sympathise with your sentiments, the only way you will achieve that goal is not to go on the internet.
Whatever you do on the internet is tracked, Google is a prime example.
Anything you post on a forum, this one included, is liable to finish up in someone's search, especially when it come to photos.
To illustrate, just type Bob38S in Google search and find out what they know about you, and that is only scratching the surface.
So, I repeat my earlier advice, find yourself an ad blocking program to get rid of the Google ads which are the main source of your annoyance.

Thanks Fred, just trying to get my ducks in a row, hence the question about speedmeup as opposed to an Adblock app.
I am aware that I'm known by what I have posted and have done so knowingly, it's the snooping in the background that annoys me.Regards,
Bob

Update, seems like I'm stuck, for the moment.
Been everywhere I can think of and tried to download apps but to no avail, all of the apps seem to require a 64 bit chip. My iPad is an iPad 2 and even though it runs iOS 9.1 perfectly it won't run any of the currently available apps.
Call it planned either by design or accident it could be seen as forcing hardware upgrading which "ain't gonna happen" at this stage. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat and that there will be some sort of workaround at some stage in the future.Regards,
Bob

I'd like an adblocker for the iPad too, the screen is small enough already without it being flooded with adverts.
Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Thanks for that.
Checked it out and the latest version is 5.3, is now free but has in app purchases and some reviewers are complaining of adverts being dropped in and pop ups.
If your version contains no adverts then I would stick with it.Regards,
Bob

Yes, ad's "appear" in between topics on the sub forum pages, but you have to tap on them to see them. I haven't seen any in app purchases or pop ups. I have updates set to automatic, currently running 5.3.

For Tapatalk users.
Those ads on Tapatalk are placed by and benefit Tapatalk. Woodwork Forums gets no benefit from them. On the other hand the ones on the Forums "Default Mobile Style" Are setup to benefit Woodwork Forums to the tune of a couple of $'s a week which like all the other ad revenue goes towards the running of the forums and helping to keep them online, updated and free.
Special note for Tapatalk Users:
As Tapatalk doesn't support us. Tapatalk supports Tapatalk. So... We don't want to be seen supporting them other than having the forums available for mobile devices via them.
Please turn off their free advertising that says:
"Sent from my (iThing/Android/Mobile Phone, etc) using Tapatalk - now free.
TO TURN TAPATALK SIGNATURE OFF click the following on your phone:
- Tapatalk
- Me (Usually bottom rh side of first screen)
- Settings
- Edit Signature
None
It's real easy to do. Took me around 10 seconds and I'm old and slow in the head.
Tapatalk and similar signatures are extremely annoying to most forum users. They cause moderators lots of problems and extra work.
If Tapatalk and iThings and Androud things want to advertise on the forums they are more than welcome to pay for the privilege and at least they would be supporting the forums and members financially. Probably still wouldn't be liked but at least there would be a practical reason for them.
Cheers - Neil

Don't often post via iPad, hadn't noticed the Tapatalk addition to my signature - now removed.

Not quite.
Go to Mail Contacts and Calendars in the Settings, go down to Signature and delete the "Sent from my iPad".
This is from my iPad but the only signature you will see is my forum signature.Regards,
Bob
