Adding a third O/S
OK you computer experts, can anyone help me with this problem?
1. I have XP SP3 and Ubuntu installed and I now need to install W2K for work reasons.
Can this be done without losing the first two O/S's and if so any suggestion as to how!
2. I have also heard that using a Virtual Machine may be a solution any thoughts on this?
Any assistance would be appreciated.Russell (aka Mulgabill)

I am a big fan of virtual machines.
If you install it in a virtual machine than you can run it from within either XP or Ubuntu.
Vmware or Virtualbox will do the job.
If you do want to go the tripple boot way then I would suggest installing w2k on another drive with the original drive unpluged. Then plug both drives in and edit your linux bootloader configuration to add w2k.

Yes.
Both vmware and virtual box have windows and linux versions.
You can probably just use vmplayer (free) rather than the whole vmware.
Virtual box is free.

What a great idea Virtual box is, I just watched the videos. I have one application which is Windows dependant but now I can run Windows in a VB and use Linux for a primary OS.

I agree Chris! What a great program. I am still doing a little research and when I find time it will be the way I go.

If your PC will boot from a USB stick, you can look at putting XP and/or Ubuntu on a USB thumb drive, and then just plug in the OS you want.
I haven't done it (yet) with your mix (dual booting Ubuntu and XP on main desktop), but on my EEE netbook I have the stock OS, and Puppy Linux on an SDHC card.
August 2009 APC magazine has an article, plus the s/ware, to run Ubuntu 9.04 from a USB stick.
And (I *think* nlite is what to google to see about putting XP onto a removable bootable device)
The VM approach sounds like a good one, and means you don't have to do any hardware rebooting to switch - with enough RAM and CPU grunt, you can run all the OSes simultaneously!
Cheers,
Andrew
