The stats from this forum alone should prove you wrong but but I doubt it as you obviously appear to have an agenda here, yet you seem to have no idea just how wrong you are do you.

    March 2008
    Windows - 13,793,274 hits
    XP - 11,520,407 hits

    vista - 1,623,179 hits
    Macintosh - 814,555 hits
    Mac OS X - 805951 hits
Personally I don't care a hoot what computer anyone use.

But lets give credit where credit's due windows is by far and away the leader and that's that.

Yes there has been a small increase in Mac users here in the last 12 months but there has also been an increase in hits. is probably growing their market share because of people like you with an agenda and their massive marketing campaign.

Man do I feel like a fish on a hook and I am going to go down in flames.

    Apple makes hardware!
    Microsoft makes software!

Like comparing apples and oranges, sorry about the pun!

As for operating systems the the biggest problem with Microsoft is they have to support all the third party applications, this makes them much more susceptible to problems. They try to support to many applications because us old types do not understand unix, or any of the other open source OS. (not all but a lot, I would say more don't than do understand open scorce)

Is it what OS is best?? or what is accepted, we thought the world was flat at one time and buck rodgers would never get to space. If people did not venture out we would be washing clothes in a creek.

Open source is the furure, and even microsoft fears this, they are looking to diversify but as a software company their days are numbered.

As I duck and slowly crawl to bed! Have a good night I am sure tomorrow will bring fire and brimestone down on me.

Have a good one, A SUPER HAPPY MAC USER!

Here's a quote by Zen Monk:

I am retired, and live in a Housing Commission flat, and try to live on a disability support pension. I do not have any where where I can go to do any woodworking unfortunately. The closest I can get to anything that looks related to woodworking is to come here and see what others are doing and be very, very envious.

This is a person who has little to validate his identity other than his choice of computer.

I might make a comment/statement that possibly identifies the majority of people who frequent this forum.

I have an interest in woodwork, i have a computer to go on this forum to check out/research/showoff the woodwork that i make, I dont give a rats ring what brand or operating system this computer has as long as it works and lets me get on the forum.

If i wanted to be a "computer geek" i would find another forum, for computer geeks, and on that forum i would not rave on about planer/thicknessers or bandsaws ar something that probably doesnt interest the members one bit.

Get a life or even better get a computer forum we dont care.
    regards

    Default Forum stats

For what it's worth, I use Linux as my OS. This is mostly because supporting Linux is what I do for a living so need it available for testing things out.
I also have a laptop that runs Windows as there are some applications I need that are only available on Windows.
On either operating system, I run Firefox as my browser so I get a consistent response no matter what OS it's running on.

Hopefully not too far off topic.

[What I'd like to see would be the stats on browser usage i.e. what web browsers do people use to access the forum?]

    I have a laptop computer.
It connects to the internet and allows me to read the forum
    I can play games.
    It runs my accounting software.
It has some good graphics programs, photo and drawing.
    It connects to my network.
Very rarely gives me any trouble.
    It can't spell very well.

    Oh! it also runs XP

I don't think there's any problem with discussing computers here, since we have a computer sub-forum - and it's natural that there will be a cross-over of interest because a lot of us work with computers. So if you like, the computer forum is for woodworkers who are also interested in computers. I know there is no such rule, but that's the way I look at it.

Where the problem exists is when threads are hijacked by people with barrows to push. I find it just as irritating in other forums when we're discussing a problem someone is having with a piece of machinery for example (Triton springs to mind) and someone constantly pops their head up and expresses their poor opinion of the machine in question. I don't think it's helpful as the poster wants assistance with the machine he owns, not to be told how great a machine that he doesn't own is. It helps no-one and just causes a lot of friction that doesn't need to be there. If someone requests advice on which machine to buy, that is a different story. But some people just can't help themselves - they have 'seen the light' and have to validate their decision by constantly trying to convince everyone else.

That's the way I see posts like this. No-one asked for information about Mac or Vista, it's basically just shyte-stirring as far as I'm concerned. It's bordering on spam. Definitely troll-like behaviour.

Zen Monk, despite having made a bitchy post earlier in this thread, I do have a positive suggestion to make.

Have you ever heard of Mens Sheds? They're an organisation which might be able to help you with a place to do woodwork, and with your life in general.

Here's a link to their site:

    http://www.mensheds.com.au

And here's a link to a shed locator. If you type in your suburb and postcode, it will give you the locations of your nearest sheds.
