    Default Autocad file conversion

Does anyone know if I can convert a simple jpg file into a dwg or dxf file?

    Background

God bless our daughters for keeping us dad's on our toes.
No.1 daughter has a series of animal outlines she'd like to have laser cut in ply. These are simple cartoon shapes, eg, kangaroo, emu etc in jpg format.

I have Autocad R14 and 2007 at my disposal. All I've managed so far is to import a jpg file into Autocad 2007 and trace around it.
When I save this file as an R14 file, the jpg image dissappears leaving me with the traced outline.

This is very tedious, it would be so much easier if I could convert the file, any clues?

I found a couple of file conversion programs on the web, but they want an arm and a leg, limbs I'm not prepared to give up.

Precision Bitmap To Vector Conversion Online - Vector Magic

That's the one I use to vectorise bitmaps.

And 10minutemail.com supplies new email addresses to create new registrations to get around the "two freebies per registration" limit.

You should be able to convert it to a vector in Adobe illustrator also.
