Not if you have a near-monopoly position in the market.
MS's track record in dealing with security threats throughout its s/w range is hardly stellar.Cheers, Ern

Yup. Hence the Windows Vista "Nag Ware" debacle.
Mind you, you are pitting one corporation, however large, against an army of unpaidbloody foolshackers doing it for glory...
I use Chrome/Firefox as they are typically a lighter weight browser, though firefox has certainly bloated in recent years.
As a former tech support employee at OzEmail years ago, I always recommended people having more than one browser on their computer for 2 reasons - some websites are developed by lazy developers who don't realise that Internet Explorer isn't the only browser out there and secondly, if something goes pear-shaped on a browser (like a rogue plugin, etc) then you have something else on your machine to go get the solution with. A third reason that I use is that my wife has all of her mail sessions, etc logged in with IE and mine are in Chrome/Firefox. Works great since we both use the same mail provider
Cheers,
Dave

I am regretfully pulling the plug on Chrome due to consistent slow loads.
It will register a request, say the site is connecting and then often sit and do nothing for ages.
To be fair it's not clear that the fault is with the browser. There's some dropping out from the internet with the modem and some other odd things happening. But Firefox is much less affected by that.Cheers, Ern

I must say, I was with you last year in singing Chrome's praises, but recently I've found myself yelling abuse at the computer again. This morning (while trying to load multiple video and photo heavy pages...) Chrome swallowed up so much RAM that the computer crashed entirely - nothing else running, only Chrome and a few low RAM apps. To be fair to Chrome, I wonder whether its because most web pages are optimised for Internet Explorer and maybe Chrome is just trying hard to do its best, but I don't know enough about web pages to know whether that's true or not.
I might start preparing for a full reformat and see if that fixes it. Or maybe I'll try firefox.Cheers, Richard

Ouch.
Couple of other things to try or look at.
Bring up Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and see which processes are hogging your memory.
Often new programs will add stuff to be loaded at startup even if the program itself isn't, like update checks.
Second thing is not always to put your PC into standby or hibernate mode when not in use, but to reboot. That can clear out some memory resident programs or processes.
Another thing is to install more RAM if you can. 32 bit Win can use up to 4meggig.
Sorry if this is teaching you how to suck eggs.Cheers, Ern

I've been using firefox for the last couple of years & decided to try out Chrome. It was ok but in the end i found myself back with firefox. Maybe it was just a case of familiarity that brought me back to firefox but i didn't find anything particularly attention grabbing from chrome, it was just another browser pretty much on par with firefox imo.

As far as all the nasties go. I am of the opinion that most are generated by those who sell you fixes. I may be a synical B but what really is the worth of all these worms trojans and the like except that the average stiff like myself needs help to get rid of them. My ex fixer told me he used to manufacture viruses in quiet times when they paid for that stuff. Now Virus fixers dont pay for viruses, perhaps their need is filled.

I use both Chrome and Firefox side by side and have any thing up to 20 tabs open in both at once. I haven't downloaded any extensions for Chrome but have several for Firefox. I don't have any issues with either for speed except for the forum at the moment.
The only other speed issue I have is using Optus Wireless Mobile Broadband depending on the location I am using as it varies from location to location depending how much signal I have. But it is fine at home because I have an Optus tower about 10 klms away line of site. I am running Windows 7 64 bit on a laptop.

Have tried it but so far have stuck to firefox, for no particular reason but routine. I have a feeling that I will change over in the future, I think it will eventually become the most powerful browser IMO.
